- You must have letter of acceptance by a designated learning institution in Canada.
- You must have enough money to pay for tuition fees and living expenses, for yourself and your family coming with you to Canada, and pay for return transportation for yourself and your family to your home country.
- You must obey the law, have no criminal record, and can obtain a police certificate if required.
- You must be in good health and are willing to undergo a medical examination if required.

Categories for a Canada Study Permit
There are two categories to become eligible for Study permit-
1) Student Direct Stream -SDS is a faster processing program.To be eligible under SDS Program the student must be legal residence living in:

- Pakistan
- Peru
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Brazil
- China
- Colombia
- Costa Rica
- Philippines
- Senegal
- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Vietnam
- The requirement of IELTS under SDS Program is minimum 6.0 with no band less than 6.0 in any module
- have an acceptance letter from a post-secondary designated learning institution
- live outside of Canada when apply
- have proof of full tuition fee payment for first year of study
- have payment proof of Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAN$10,000
- Have proof of medical test
2) Study Permit application under General Category(NON SDS)
- The students from all countries can apply and specifically students from SDS countries’ list countries who don’t qualify under SDS program can also apply under general category.
- A strong proof of financial background is required in General Category.
- The other requirements for general student visa application are same as SDS category such as: Admission process Completion (LOA, Tuition Fees), Medical, and Bio-metric, proof of GIC except Full year fee payment.

You may renew or extend your study permit if:
- You wish to continue your studies, check the expiry date on your study permit, and make sure you apply for extension before that date. You should apply for renewal at least 30 days before your current permit expires.
- you change your university, If you decide to change programs or school / institution, you must complete an application to change the conditions of you study permit.
